From the “Something to think about” department: Have you ever wondered if we have been here before? As any one who reads this blog or any of my others for that matter, knows I am concerned with the fact that we are rapidly removing God from our lives. It makes you wonder if this has ever happened before.
Whether you are Catholic as I am, Christian or even non-Christian, the answer is, yes it has. (I leave out atheists since they don’t believe in God anyway) Here is one example from the book of Genesis:
12 Then the men said to Lot, “Have you anyone else here? Sons-in-law, sons, daughters, or anyone you have in the city, bring them out of the place. 13 For we are about to destroy this place, because the outcry against its people has become great before the Lord, and the Lord has sent us to destroy it.” – Genesis 19:12 – 13
What happened in Sodom which would cause the Lord to be so angry that he would wipe them off the earth? It was a place of sin, of sexual immorality, murder and idol worship. The inhabitants of Sodom pretty much ignored all of God’s Commandments and He decided they must pay.
20 Then the Lord said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, 21 I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me. And if not, I will know.” – Genesis 18:20 – 21
Are we seeing this today? I say we are. We no longer have a regard for human life, we kill our babies and in at least three states assisted suicide is legal. We no longer have any kind of moral code in this country, most people only live for themselves, putting themselves before all others, and changing the rules to fit their needs. Women especially, but men and children as well, have become sexual objects first, before anything else, family is no longer important. Are we any different from Sodom?
The title of this post asks “Are you one of the righteous?”
23 Then Abraham drew near and said, “Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city. Will you then sweep away the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?” 26 And the Lord said, “If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake.” – Genesis 18: 23 – 26
The Lord found only one righteous person in Sodom, Lot, the son of Abraham, the rest were destroyed. Are we any different then Sodom? Will we destroyed if we are not righteous? Can we change the ways of our brothers and sisters? Only God knows for certain Can we afford to do nothing but wait and see?
