You Can’t Take it With You

Back before I fell off the back of a truck I remember how I was always the guy who never had enough. I never had enough money, I never had enough stuff. I was always working at least two jobs but I never had enough.

No matter how much money I made it was never enough. If I received a raise I would just spend more. I was always stressed and it affected my health. I got divorced, started doing things I shouldn’t and was in a bad place. I’ve written about this before so I’ll spare you the details.

It wasn’t until I was at my lowest, my better half and I were out of work, behind in all our bills and about to lose my house that I came to the realization that I really didn’t need very much. For a short period we were living on very little money. We were scrounging for food and it was hard. I had already begun my journey back to Jesus Christ and I realized that I just needed to put my life in his hands. I have also written about this. It’s the book I have on the right side of this page.

So what is the point of this post? I see someone close to me who is heading down the same road as I was. He’s making money, lots of it, but it seems like it’s never enough. He’s working himself to death. His health is deteriorating and I am sure his family life is as well.

How can I make him see that it isn’t worth it? How can I get him to see that he should be storing treasure in heaven not on earth? There are many passages in the Bible about this but he doesn’t read it. He doesn’t go to church. He doesn’t get the message, the Word.

I keep praying for him and I know Jesus hears me but he needs to do his part too. He has enough now he needs to work on “Living with the end in mind”. He can’t take it with him.

Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gets understanding, for the gain from it is better than gain from silver and its profit better than gold.
