I used to be that guy. You know the guy who watched the news networks, listened to and even called the radio talk shows, and the guy who wrote opinion pieces for various blogs and websites.
Then came the day when I realized that no matter what I said, no matter what I wrote, no matter how I voted, it didn’t make one bit of difference. I realized the system was corrupt and I was powerless to change it. It was always going to be ruled by special interest groups. It was always going to be about money and power.
But the biggest revelation to me was when I realized who was really in charge. No it wasn’t a republican or a democrat, it wasn’t a liberal or conservative, but it is someone who most people never even thought about. It’s Satan.
As a people we have let the evil one into our lives. Most of us do his bidding and we don’t even realize it. We have exchanged morality for immortality. We have replaced black and white with gray. We have replaced charity with greed, hope with despair, love with hate.
It’s been a gradual process but I believe we have reached the point of no return. I remember in my political days I would espouse the idea that once people were dependent upon the government for their survival they would always vote for the people who would give them more. Once the majority of people were dependent on the government, our country would fail.
I now understand that the same principle applies to God and Satan. Once the majority of people stop believing in God, although most won’t say they believe in Satan, and start to follow Satan’s lead the end won’t be far away.
We think nothing about terminating a pregnancy because a baby will make our lives too inconvenient. We think nothing of ending a life because someone deems a person too old or sick to contribute to the world. We think nothing about rewarding people with public assistance who, although perfectly capable of working don’t.
These are things that will never change, at least not through the political process, we can only hope we can make the changes through prayer and bringing Jesus Christ back into our lives.
Ah! Those who call evil good, and good evil, who change darkness to light, and light into darkness, who change bitter to sweet, and sweet into bitter!
Ah! Those who are wise in their own eyes, prudent in their own view!
Ah! Those who are champions at drinking wine, masters at mixing drink!
Those who acquit the guilty for bribes, and deprive the innocent of justice! (Isaiah 5:20–23, NABRE)
