Now that I have more days behind me than I have in front of me, I have been thinking about the future. I hope it’s not the immediate future but the future nonetheless. I’ve been learning about heaven and hell and what either one will be like. Of course, I would prefer one over the other, but that’s out of my hands.
According to the writings of those who have studied this, when we arrive at either place, we will be able to recognize others there. This goes for relatives, friends, famous people, and anyone else who is in the same place as us. I don’t know what age we will be, if it’s the age we pass or some other age. I wonder if we get to pick?
Anyway, I’ve started thinking this could lead to some interesting meetings. Let’s say you are in heaven, and as you are walking around, you bump into the kid who lived in your neighborhood who used to be the bully. You say “Hello” and wonder how the heck he got here. Shouldn’t you be “down there”?
Then you run into that little vixen who tempted you and caused you to break the sixth commandment. She is the one who caused you to sin; she came onto you. She shouldn’t be allowed to be in the same place as you. Oh, wait, it does take two to commit adultery, which means I shouldn’t be in heaven either. Maybe I should leave that one alone.
I would like to think we won’t remember the sins we committed, after all, we should be purged after our time in purgatory. Of course, this assumes we are in heaven. If we are in hell, then I don’t imagine it will make much difference
How about this thought: instead of wasting time wondering about where others are going, maybe we should just focus on where we are going?
