More on Honesty

In my last post I talked about whether or not it is okay to lie. I also didn’t come up with an answer and I mentioned this is why I consider myself a wayward Catholic. Each time I try to answer a question regarding faith, more questions arise.I think there are many people in my generation who have the same problem. I was raised in that time, the late sixties, seventies and early eighties, when the motto was “If it feels good do it.” I didn’t exactly stop believing in God, it was more a case of thinking I knew more than He did, I thought I knew what was best for me. I decided it was okay to bend the rules a little to make them fit my philosophy. My guess is a lot of others have done the same thing, hence the erosion of morality.

We have created a grey area, a place between black and white, where some sins are justified depending on the circumstances at the time. A good example would be the whole sexual revolution, although the Bible is clear on such things as pre-marital sex, abortion, homosexuality, adultery, fornication, we have convinced ourselves it is okay to make ourselves feel good, even though it is against God’s laws. Those who have wished to remove God from our society have exploited this. They have continued to sell us on the fact that we don’t need God, we don’t need the Bible, they know better than we do.

So, back to the question, “Is it okay to lie?” As I pointed out yesterday, it is clear in the “Catechism of the Catholic Church”, which also references the Bible, it isn’t okay to lie, even if we feel the end justifies the means. With God there can be no grey area, it is either black or white. You either sin, or you don’t. As good Christians we need to remember this, it is what the Christian belief system is based on, truth.

Regarding the exposing of Planned Parenthood’s nefarious practices then, should we look for another way? Is there another way to show the evil of abortion without using deceptive practices? I would like to think there are people out there who would do the right thing, but it is entirely possible those days are gone. Again, we have lived in the grey area for so long does anyone really know what is truth?

“The Truth shall set you free.”
