More about Prayer

It’s been a busy last couple of weeks and I haven’t had much time for writing. Or reading. Or praying. So I am trying to get back on track. I’ve been trying to get a little freelance business going (writing and editing) which has been taking most of my free time. Of course when I stop and think about it, I know that if I spent more time praying, reading scripture and other inspirational writings and even writing more it would make getting the business going easier because I would have God on my side.

I know God is on my side all the time anyway, and when I need help with anything I just need to ask Him for direction and He’ll help, He has before and He will again. I never used to ask God for help. There were three reasons for this:

  • I was smarter than God
  • He doesn’t listen anyway
  • What if He didn’t give me the answer I wanted?

Is that why you don’t ask God for help more often?

We all think we know more than God. We all think we can do it on our own, and maybe we can, for awhile, but not for long. There will come a time when we will need help, help that only He can give us. Some of us have to get pretty desperate before we ask for His help, some of us never do, but there will come a time when we need it.

We pray, asking for something from God and we our prayers aren’t answered, so we figure God isn’t listening. But is it because God isn’t listening or is it because we aren’t listening to God? God listens to everything we ask for, and He answers all our prayers. The problem is there is so much noise in the word today we don’t hear Him when He answers us. Think about all the distractions in our lives, all the noise, how busy we are, and we wonder why we can’t hear God talking to us? But then that is part of Satan’s plan, this is where the noise comes from. Satan doesn’t want us to hear what God has to say since that is bad for Satan.

When we ask for something from God, we might not get the answer we want, so isn’t it easier just to not ask in the first place? We don’t want to believe that God knows what is best for us. We don’t want to trust in Him. Instead of getting an answer we don’t want it is just easier to not ask?

I have learned the hard way what happens when we don’t ask for God’s help. I know I need to get back into my routine of praying about things and then more importantly, listening for the answers, even those I don’t like.
