Forgiveness. That can be a tall order for some of us. Some of us can hold onto grudges for a long, long, time. What we read in today’s gospel is that if we don’t forgive, then God won’t forgive us our sins. When I think about some of the grudges I held I realize how stupid it was.
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you; but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
The Holy Bible, Revised Standard Version; Second Catholic Edition. (San Francisco: Ignatius Press, 2006), Mt 6:14–15.
Were any of them worth losing God over? Having him turn away? Ruining our chance to spend eternity with Jesus? Nope. I didn’t realize it then, but I do now. What a fool I was. I only hope it isn’t too late. Well isn’t that a depressing paragraph? I guess I’m just in one of those moods. I have to admit though, that the world has been a really depressing place lately.
This is why it is time to make things right with the Lord. I’m going to keep this one short today because I don’t like the direction this post is going. But since I will be writing 36 more posts before I’m done, I promise the next 36 will be more positive.
