It’s been a few posts since I’ve written about politics on this blog, so it’s about time. I received a press release from the Family Research Council regarding their decision to not ship anything via UPS any longer. This is because of UPS’s decision to no longer fund the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) because they discriminate.
Family Research Council (FRC) announced today that it would cease using United Parcel Service (UPS) as its primary package distributor in the wake of UPS’s decision to cease funding the Boy Scouts of America because of the Scouts’ longstanding policy of not accepting openly homosexual Scout leaders or members.
Not that FRC’s decision not to use UPS will make a dent in big brown’s profits, it is nice to see them making a stand. In the Boy Scouts we have an organization which has always taught morality to the young men of American and has not compromised there values since the organization began. As stated by FRC President Tony Perkins:
“The Boy Scouts of America has for decades been a force for moral integrity and leadership in the United States. Sadly, their principled stances have marked them as a target for ridicule and harassment by organizations that disagree with their convictions. Although as recently as September UPS had said they would not discriminate against the Scouts, they recently reversed themselves following an online petition campaign by homosexual activists.”
These groups want to be treated equally yet they harass and intimidate those who don’t agree with them. If a Christian group did what these people do, they would be vilified, yet gay activists are given free reign. They get a free pass. But then this is the way Progressives work. The interesting thing is most gays probably couldn’t care less about whether or not the Boy Scouts accept them or not. Most gays live there lives without anyone knowing they are gay, not that they hide it, they just don’t flaunt it and throw it in your face.
What if it was Planned Parenthood who UPS decided to withhold funds from? They kill babies, yet look what happened when the Komen folks decided to no longer give to Planned Parenthood, remember the outcry? But when an organization is morally right, it’s different.
It is no difference with those of us who believe in God and Jesus as our Savior. Who will make the most difference in the world. the one who goes out shouting the Word of God at the top of his lungs, or the one who quietly goes about his business, working in the way Jesus did, quietly spreading love and the word of God?
“Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 6:1
The hypocrites, who shout and show all how pious they are, will only receive glory from men, while those who go about the Lord’s work quietly, will receive heavenly rewards. St. Francis of Assisi once said “Preach always, sometimes with words.” Show your love of God and for one another through your actions.
So what does this have to do with the Boy Scouts, UPS and the Family Research Council? It shows that the FRC, through it’s actions, are quietly doing the right thing. There business might not affect the bottom line of UPS, but at least FRC knows in their hearts they are doing what is right.
