Nancy Pelosi: A Catholic’s Catholic, Not

Everybody’s favorite “Catholic’s Catholic” Nancy Pelosi is at it again. Being the true Catholic she does her religion on Sunday’s in church. According to this in the Washington Examiner Pelosi said:

“I do my religion on Sundays, in church, and I try to go other days of the week; I don’t do it at this press conference,” Pelosi said curtly as a reporter asked about her view of the church position on contraception.

So I guess the rest of the time, being Catholic doesn’t matter to Pelosi?

Now, I know I haven’t always been good at being a practicing Catholic, but it seems to me that when you are really a Catholic you are a Catholic every day not just when you are in church on Sunday. The United States Conference f Catholic Bishops addresses this in a document entitled “Forming Consciences For Faithful Citizenship…”

14. Unfortunately, politics in our country often can be a contest of powerful interests, partisan attacks, sound bites, and media hype. The Church calls for a different kind of political engagement: one shaped by the moral convictions of well-formed consciences and focused on the dignity of every human being, the pursuit of the common good, and the protection of the weak and the vulnerable. The Catholic call to faithful citizenship affirms the importance of political participation and insists that public service is a worthy vocation. As Catholics, we should be guided more by our moral convictions than by our attachment to a political party or interest group. When necessary, our participation should help transform the party to which we belong; we should not let the party transform us in such a way that we neglect or deny fundamental moral truths. We are called to bring together our principles and our political choices, our values and our votes, to help build a better world.

A true Catholic does not only practice their faith on Sundays but every day. Politicians like Nancy Pelosi shouldn’t even call themselves Catholic if they believe in that kind of “Catholicism”.

I as well have the same question and one other one. Why has she not been excommunicated? That is a question at times I really want an answer to. God Bless, SR
